Mai Mai, is the result of a double brother to sister breeding (inbreeding). Her parents are full brother and sister as are her grandparents. A brother to sister breeding is considered by many breeders to be inbreeding, but is not as close as the mother to son or the father to daughter style of inbreeding. Because each offspring receives only one half of eatch parents DNA, potentially there is more variability in the gene pool of a brother to sister breeding. Variability is good as it counteracts the potential detrimental effects of doubling up on bad genes that is sometimes seen as a consequence of inbreeding. This is referred to as inbreeding depression. Breeders use the brother to sister style of inbreeding to concentrate and preserve the traits of an outstanding family into the resulting litter. Prominent bloodlines identified in the background of Mai Mai are dogs from the Old Family Red Nose strain from breeders Marsha Wood, Jake Wilders, Jerome Camarano, Bob Hemphill and Amber-Lite Kennels.
