"Thor Thompson, is the result of a half brother to half sister mating. Both of his parents were sired by Max of Palacios out of different dams. In addition Thor’s sire and dam are nephew and aunt as his dam, Ambar and paternal grand dam Capeta were litter mate sister. Both an aunt to nephew mating and a half brother to half brother to half sister mating are types of line breeding, so Thor is the result of a double line breeding. Line breeding is a breeding style that is used to preserve the traits of an outstanding stud, brood bitch or a family of dogs, while at the same time retaining the variability in the gene pool. Whenever breeder choose to line breed based on a family of dogs, the quality of the breeding stock as well as the bloodline itself is very important. All of the characteristics of the bloodline, both good and bad, will become fixed within the pups genetic pool as line breeding narrows the gene pool by increasing the number of identical gene pairs (homozygous genes) in each pup’s DNA. The line bred offspring will resemble other dogs within the pups the bloodline identified in the Thor’s seven generation pedigree are dogs from the Old Family Red Nose strain by breeders Schiller, Hanson, Castillo’s, Lewis, Amber-Lite, and Lar San Kennels. The Old Family Red Nose was developed by breeders using many of the dogs imported from Ireland into the United States from 1850 to 1920. William J. Lightner is the man usually credited with formulating a predominately red nose strain in the United States. Lighter dogs became the foundation of many of the Old Family Red Nose bloodlines bred by modern breeders today."
